Electrical potential investigation of reversible metastability and irreversible degradation of CdTe solar cells

In this paper, we report on the stability of CdTe devices with a structure TCO/MZO/CdSeTe/CdTe/back-contact. The device showed reversible transitions between light-soak state (LSS) best efficiency and dark-soak (DSS) an inferior efficiency. However, it irreversible degradation (DgS) driven by long-hour light soaking at elevated temperature. We have investigated these three states from perspective electric field nm-resolution potential imaging across using Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM). results exhibit different anomalous profiles. At LSS, exhibits main peak inside CdSeTe layer instead MZO/CdSeTe heterointerface, illustrating buried homojunction (BHJ) device. DSS, large interface was measured, which probably resulted in fill factor DSS. DgS, increased further third measured back contact Device modeling COMSOL software, alignment both current-voltage curves, elucidates that low n-doped region near caused BHJ LSS loss MZO doping and/or increase conduction band offset spike due to long-term stress DgS.
